There was a warm welcome at the Warren Golf Club for the finalists of the juniors' competition for the Henry Truscott Trophy.
Representing the North Division was Saunton Golf Club, Tiverton for the East, Yelverton the West and defending their win from 2024 was Stover for the South Division.
The Warren Golf Club looked fabulous but the biting north breeze had an icy feel and only one youngster braved shorts for the match. Having won through the divisional rounds, the teams of 6 played a Stableford format and the 5 best scores counted for the final team score.
There was only one girl representing her club, Saunton. Young Tommasina Miali plays for the DevonGolf Girls' team and was an integral part of the winning team at the Girls' South West Inter-Counties' competition at Broadstone Golf Club in Dorset earlier this year. Tommasina also had the second best score of the day with 38 points, only being bested by an excellent 40 points from Stover's Freddie Gribble.
An early 37 points from Tiverton's George Hann was the leading score for a while and later matched by Brook Tyler-Mitchelmore from Stover. Tension mounted in the clubhouse as individual scores came in, much adding up on fingers as players tried to work out who had played how many matches, who was currently in the lead. But, in the end, it was Stover who triumphed and retained the Henry Truscott Trophy.

DevonGolf is grateful to the Junior Organisers who give up so much of their time throughout the year. Also, thanks to Competition Director Tim Aggett who was the starter for the day and did a magnificent job rearranging the start times after a closure on the M5 and Mark Sangster acting as course marshall. The Warren Golf Club, as always, provided great hospitality and food and everyone left with very happy faces.
