It was heartening to see the sun for the Men's Inter-Club Foursomes at Staddon Heights Golf Club. Representatives from 16 clubs across the county gathered to play 36-holes of Foursomes Medal on a course in fine condition.
The two magnificent trophies for gross and nett were on display and playing for the honour to win one for their club had some of Devon's finest golfers all fired up. Roger Worthington, DevonGolf President, had the chilly job of starter whilst Wendy Stanbury had the warm one as competition manager.
The round 1 early pace was set by Chris Gawman & Jack Philpotts (Tavistock) with 74. Not long after Sam Williams & Chris McGill (Warren) carded 76 for the 2nd spot but were later pushed back by Guy Peters & Rory Adams (East Devon) on count-back. Peters & Adams (PH 6) held the best nett score of 70, closely followed by Tim Metheringham & Chris Tancock (Honiton - PH 14) with nett 73 and Wayne Tulley & Andy Taylor (PH 12 - Boringdon Park) were lying 3rd with nett 74. It was all to play for in round 2.
It was a quick turnaround for all players as they set off for round 2. First out saw Staddon's Luke Moulder & Chris Moulder card a 72. Right behind them were Gawman & Philpotts with 75. From the off it was looking like a play-off with both teams having carded a total 149. Much relieved to have finished, they were 2 pints in before they realised they might have to go out again - and so the long wait began. And wait they had to until Peters & Adams returned a gross 72 to bring home the winning score of 148.
As the nett scores were entered into the computer it was looking as though Tulley & Taylor or Moulder & Moulder might be lifting the trophy, both with nett 143. Again, it was a long wait until Peters & Adams returned a stunning nett 66 to become both the gross and nett winners of the day.

Huge thanks to everyone at Staddon Heights Golf Club for hosting so many golfers over 2 rounds. The greens, catering and Pro Shop staff were all fantastic and the Course Marshall was so helpful when the play-off looked inevitable. DevonGolf are so appreciative of clubs who go the extra mile as Staddon Heights did.
