The Sheelah Creasy Bowl semi-finals were held on 5th September at Yelverton Golf Club on a glorious day on the edge of the moors.
The first match was between Bovey Tracey and the Warren. There was quite a big handicap difference between the teams with Bovey Tracey giving 33 shots to the Warren across the top 4 games. The first win went to Jane Hodgson of Bovey Tracey, followed by a win for her team mate Ness O’Brien. The Warren ladies then came in with two wins for Lesley Turpin in the singles and Mary Smith and June Cassidy in the Greensomes. This meant the match was to be decided by game 5 and the Greensomes pairing of Sallie Malt and Jane Barter brought the match home for Bovey Tracey.
Sidmouth played Honiton in the second semi-final, something of a local derby with most of the ladies knowing each other. Sidmouth took charge in this match, winning all the singles games courtesy of Mo Borer, Catherine Walden and Heather Cowan. Before the information that the match was over could be communicated to both teams, the Sidmouth Greensomes pair of Yvonne Anning and Diane Boyden won their game and the other Greensomes game was called in when Honiton’s Liz Rogers and Linda Curtis were 1-up on the 18th at the time.
The Sheelah Creasy Bowl finalists for 2025 are Bovey Tracey and Sidmouth, congratulations to both teams. The semi-finalist trophies were presented to Team Managers Sue Barr for the Warren team and Barbara Cummings for Honiton. A big well done to both teams for reaching this stage of the competition. Bovey Tracey & Sidmouth will play the finals on Friday, 26th September at Okehampton Golf Club when the finals of the Still Cup, President's Trophy and the Doris Willes-Little will also be played. Supporters are most welcome.
My thanks to our host club Yelverton and General Manager Lance for all his help with planning. To the greens staff for the presentation of a fabulous course and the bar and catering staff who provided some lovely match meals. Thanks also to Lady Captain Jo-Anne Jenkins who welcomed the teams and presented the trophies. Special thanks to DevonGolf referees Terry Hembrow and Jane Summers and starter Wendy Stanbury who sent the players off with important information and encouragement.
