116 women had signed up for the Western Morning News Foursomes (S&W) at a very sunny Churston Golf Club. It's a two-fold competition with clubs able to nominate 3 pairs to win the trophy for their club, 2 out of 3 scores to count, plus the opportunity to win the Foursomes Stableford as a pair with prizes from 1st to 8th place.
Torquay's Fiona Parsons & Charlotte Dommett and Teignmouth's Vicky Holloway & Hannah Stephens were the first to tee off. Fiona & Charlotte returned with a stunning 44 points, unrivalled by any of the other 57 pairings all day. The penultimate group, Thurlestone's Jan Brooking & Heather Spencer came in with 43 points to bag second place, by which time all eyes were on the leaderboard to see which club's 3 pairs would bring home the best 2 scores for the trophy. Looking good for quite some time were Torquay with Fiona & Charlotte's 44 points but their team mates were near the end of the field so what would they do? Meanwhile, Bovey Tracey pairings of Sallie Malt & Sarah Watson came in with 41 points and Alison Pencil & Vanessa O'Brien with 40 to put them in the lead with 81 points. Near the end of the field was the Torquay pairing of Maxine Adams & Caroline Craig and excitement mounted as they put in their card of 40 points - but they hadn't been chosen to represent their club and the score didn't count towards the trophy. In the end, Bovey Tracey's 81 points held and they took the trophy whilst Charlotte Dommett & Fiona Parsons kept their individual pairing first place prizes.

DevonGolf is very grateful to Churston Golf Club for being such excellent hosts and, in particular, Club Captain Peter McLaughlin who gave up his morning to be the starter.
