DEVON JUNIOR CLUB TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP AT TORQUAY GOLF CLUB

The competition standard for the DevonGolf Club Team Championship at Torquay Golf Club continues to grow year on year. 13 clubs across the county played, many entering several teams. Teams of 3, playing a Stableford format, with the twist of team members not playing with each other, all vying to win the opportunity for their team to go to the England Golf Junior Club Team Championship national final in August at Spalding Golf Club.

Handicaps ranged from -2 to 29 for the boys and 2 to 22 for the girls, with a quarter of the field with handicaps in single figures and augers well for golfing youngsters in Devon for the future.

Early scores on the superbly presented course were not generally high. 41 points from Torquay's Luca Impey (13) and Tiverton's Louis Andrews (24) showed it could be done, alongside 40 points from RND's Freya Goddard (22), Teignmouth's Harley Firth (28) and Torquay's Stanley Austin (25). But the top score of the day came from Charlie Carwardine (Yelverton - 29) who score 46 points and woke up today to a handicap of 15.8). For all individual scores click here

It wasn't until the final score was in that Torquay Golf Club could be sure that they had clinched the title of DevonGolf Club Team Champions with their Team 3 players Luca Impey (13), Stanley Austin (25) and Cameron Bolton-Coulfield (10). Just 3 points behind were Royal North Devon's Freya Goddard (22), Emily Goddard (22) and Caelen Colwill (14). For all team scores click here. Congratulations Torquay who go forward to the final in August.

Torquay Golf Club members provided superb support with starters and ball spotters for the day and it was a terrific help. DevonGolf referee Pam St Leger was on the course for any rules queries, DevonGolf Competitions Manager Wendy Stanbury was the administrator and the Junior Organisers of the 13 clubs entered had all volunteered their time - on Father's Day.

Congratulations to the Torquay boys and we wish them well in the final.

Competitions Manager
