TOBY WHITE WINS IN USA

Devon Golfer records Collegiate victory in the USA

Thurlestone’s Toby White has secured his first Collegiate victory, winning the NAIA Patriot Invite, hosted by Cumberlands College at Crooked Creek GC, London, Kentucky.

Representing his College, Lindsey Wilson College, the Thurlestone player opened with an excellent 2-under par 70, tying him for the lead with College-mate Rio Saigal. A second round 74 dropped him back slightly but a final round level par 72 finishing with a spectacular eagle 3 on the 574-yard final hole saw him tie with Cayden Chambers of Bethel College, Tennessee. It needed just 2 more holes for the Devonian to triumph in a sudden death playoff, adding the individual win to the overwhelming team win the LWC golfers had produced as alongside Toby’s win two other team members finished tied 4th

The final contributor to that team win was Saunton’s Stan White, who joined Toby (his unrelated namesake) at LWC at the start of this University year. Stan endured a tough 2nd round but fought back with an excellent final day 73 which saw him rise 8 places to finish 12th.

Both Devonians are having excellent Collegiate years and currently stand ranked inside the top 100 of the 1500+ golfers ranked in the NAIA, their College being ranked Number 1 nationally in the NAIA

They go again next week in the Roadrunner Classic in Georgia
