The final of the Doris Willes-Little Foursomes competition was held at Royal North Devon Golf Club on 15th September on a chilly, blustery day which made the course very challenging. The final was between the Saunton pairing of Patricia Barker and Louise Brown, playing the Portmore pairing of Amanda Webber and Alison West.
33 teams had entered the knockout competition this year, playing matches on neutral courses.
The other two teams who had made it through to the semi-finals to win the semi-final trophies were the Stover team of Angela Johnson and Helen Squire and the Teignmouth team of Joyce Brown and Amanda Coleridge, congratulations to those ladies for reaching so far in the competition.
The final was a close fought and very exciting match with supporters out on the course from both clubs. It was a treat to watch the ladies battle each other and the elements, both teams finding the RND bunkers very tricky. Amanda and Alison took an early lead but Patricia and Louise settled into their game and turned it round to take the lead. The pairings were fairly evenly matched but, with the Saunton ladies receiving shots, they held the lead through most of the match. Amanda and Alison were fighting back with some strong holes towards the end but Patricia and Louise secured the win 2&1 on the 17th.
