U12 BOYS MATCH - DEVON v CORNWALL

Devon v Cornwall u12 Boys

Devon U12s put on a fine display against Cornwall at a very welcoming Trethorne Golf Club. It was intended to be the second triangular match between Devon, Cornwall and Somerset but the match became a straight head to head when the latter were forced to withdraw.

Devon had a good day which involved some great golf from both teams. Belying their ages, 12 very competent golfers from each county took to the course to play an 18 hole Greensomes match with teams selected for Devon by Brian Newman and for Cornwall by Matt Hudson. In front of watching family members it was clear to see the joy on the faces of the juniors as they set out.

With all matches starting at the 10th tee, Luke Aldous (Staddon Heights) and Leo Chapman (Yelverton) led Devon out with Ethan Kinski (St Mellion) and Abel Bale (St Austell) representing Cornwall. The four had a close match which went the way of Cornwall by a 2&1 margin.

Next up were Luca Impey & Kristian Muzvimwe for Devon against Rory Hudson and Charley Hackett (both West Cornwall). The Cornish pair had a healthy lead but were pegged back by their plucky opponents who claimed the match at the very last hole. So, at this stage, honours even.

The third game saw Max Jarrett and Torquay club-mate George Kasparis take on Rupert O'Donnell (The Point) and Cameron Brewaeys (West Cornwall). Things did not go quite the way of the Cornwall pair but the Devon duo played well and deserved their 3&2 win.

Game 4 had Devon represented by Henry Bright (Woodbury Park) and Tyler Storry (East Devon) and they took care of Oli Hanton (St Enodoc) and Luke Harrison (West Cornwall) winning 3&1. The momentum was now firmly with Devon and Cornwall needed to win the remaining games just to square the overall match.

This was not to be as Devon's George Cann (Saunton) and Oscar Bunt (Exeter) played out the only halved match of the day against Sebby Hutchings (Carlyon Bay) and Jenson Davis (Falmouth). Devon were now over the line and when their final pair of William Hampton (Royal North Devon) and Finn Robson (Thurlestone) beat Tate Reddecliff (Launceston) and Lucas Lawrence (Tehidy Park) by 2&1.

Cornwall Golf Union Secretary Chris Pountney thanked Trethorne Golf Club for their hospitality. On behalf of Cornwall Rory Hudson and for Devon Henry Bright expressed their thanks to the host club. Hudson thanked Devon for travelling to Cornwall and for playing what had been a great match. Bright expressed similar thanks and congratulated the Devon team on their performance as well as thanking Brain Newman for the efforts he makes on behalf of the Devon juniors. Both wished everyone safe journeys home.
