There was a great welcome from the staff at Downes Crediton Golf Club with the course looking as good as could be - thanks to the greens' staff's hard work. Beth and Ella greeted everyone in the clubhouse and Chef Cayne and Naomi and Amy whistled up bacon baps before play and served a hearty meal afterwards. Thanks to Joe and Robin in the Pro's Shop for their help and support and administering the 2s. DevonGolf volunteer Nigel Hoskin was the starter and referee and Wendy Stanbury took care of the admin for the day.
Veteran County Card Stableford player Colin Baker (Downes Crediton) was first out with his erstwhile playing buddy Roger Lake (Downes Crediton). Clearly local knowledge paid off when Colin returned 37 points to set the standard. And it seemed a high standard as it was a while before Soloman Singh (Saunton) also returned 37 points to take second place on countback. Soloman also had the first 2 of the day, followed by Dale Hurrell (RND) and Dean Willoughy (RND) winning £46 of balls each and David Avery (RND) who hadn't entered the 2s. The course must have been playing tough as scores over 30 points generally seemed hard to come by. And, as often happens, it was a player in one of the last groups, Mark Harris (Torquay) who posted the winning score of 38 points. For all scores click here
