Qualifying rounds for the final of the Henry Truscott Trophy had been played throughout the season. Juniors played clubs within their region (north, south, east and west) and Royal North Devon, Stover, Staddon Heights and Tiverton teams had qualified. The Warren, a tricky course on any day, proved to be so again as three clubs battled it out for the trophy as, unfortunately, Royal North Devon couldn't bring a team to the event.
There were 6 players in each team, a Stableford format, with 5 of the 6 best scores to count with teams' handicaps ranging from 4 to 28. As the breeze was picking up, DevonGolf Juniors' Director Brian Newman saw the youngsters off from the first tee whilst Wendy Stanbury stayed in the welcoming warmth of the clubhouse overseeing the administration.
Scoring points proved to be tricky and the top score of the day was 32 points, all from Staddon Heights' Joseph Aldous (4), Luke Moulder (10) and Xander Thorburn (16) to put Staddon Heights into an unassailable lead and they finished with a fine 153 points from the 5 best scores.
Stover Golf Club's Callum Cogavin (9), Jack Ansley (10), Calum Cooney (10), Braydon Cotton (11), Sam Withers (12) and Cyril Gosling (15) scored 130 points from their best 5 scores of the day to take second place. Placing third was Tiverton Golf Club's Alex Chau (7), Zach Rickford (11), Rhys Floyd (22), Xander Rickford (24), Harry Gozna (27) and Toby Garnsworthy (28) scoring 128 from their best 5 scores of the day.
Staddon Height's Team Captain Joseph Aldous thanked The Warren Golf Club for hosting the day, DevonGolf for the tournament organisation and Stover Golf Club and Tiverton Golf Club on reaching the final.
