The Devon Women Seniors' team travelled to Minchinhampton for a match against Gloucestershire Seniors.
The course was playing long and wet in autumnal conditions. The format was 4 singles and 3 Foursomes matches led out by Gilly Jarvis. She played scratch golfer and Home International player on her own golf course, which proved too much for Gilly losing 5-4. In the second game Devon's Amanda Burchell played some great golf to beat Mary Mayes 3-1. In the third match Vicky Holloway played 3 handicapper Emma Brereton and, after a shaky start, had two birdies and an eagle to secure a 3-1 win. Game 4 saw Sarah Hoff take on home player Ali Kelly who won 3-2. The first of the Foursomes pairs were rookies Sally Underwood and Frances Harbron who had a great victory against the experienced Karen Rix and Paula Crabtree. Another new Devon pairing, Amanda Leonard and Helen Chivers, proved too strong for their opposition winning 2-1. Kate Field and Marcia Collett were the last foursomes pairing but unfortunately lost 4/2 to Olwen Simpson and Jo Francis Pope. Overall the Devon team won 4-3 which was a stunning result away from home against a strong Gloucestershire team and with the new line up.
Many thanks to Minchinhampton Golf Club for hosting the event. Congratulations to our players on a great match win and we look forward to the return match next season.
